Meet the Expert: Harjit Sandhu
Harjit Sandhu is a distinguished Indian police officer with over four decades of experience in law enforcement, counterterrorism, anti-corruption, governance, risk management, and institutional reform. He has held senior leadership roles in both national and international settings, including within the United Nations and Interpol.
In India, Harjit served as Senior Superintendent of Police, Commanding Officer of an Armed Battalion, and Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Internationally, his assignments included roles with Interpol, the UN Security Council, the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, and the United Nations World Food Programme.
As Coordinator and Spokesperson for five UN Security Council Panels of Experts on Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Somalia, he led international teams investigating violations of UN sanctions, global arms trafficking, and illicit diamond smuggling networks.
Harjit is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and Certified Procurement Specialist. He holds advanced academic credentials in management, law, and investigations from prestigious international institutions.
He has provided expert services to the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee, UN Office on Drugs and Crime, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency, and the Commonwealth Secretariat.
